A Verdant Landscape
About the Artwork:
Growing up in Brisbane, I have often found my life gravitating to South Bank Parklands. As a child I would visit here with family or go on school excursions, always finding new secret pathways that would take you through a maze of natural chaos. These visits continued as I got older, catching up with friends after school when I went to Brisbane State High, during lecture breaks when I studied at the Queensland College of Art and now as a practicing artist meeting with colleagues in this cultural precinct. South Bank Parklands seemed to be a place of connection, not only with my friends and family but also with the verdant landscape of this city.
The flora depicted in this artwork hero the Frangipanni and Bougainvillea, two trees that are iconic to the South Bank Parklands area. By incorporating flora and colours that reflect the surrounding landscape of the QAG café, this artwork aims to be inclusive of all communities, as our connection to nature is relatable.
